TOHACHIYA, established in 1888, is a producer and distributor of Wajima-nuri, one of the leading Japanese traditional crafts. Wajima-nuri has a history of over 600 years and is made using all natural materials such as urushi and wood. The production process consists of more than 120 different stages. As a result, it is both strong and has a smooth elegant finish derived from the use of natural materials. Wajima-nuri is much loved by many people and highly valued for its timeless beauty.

TOHACHIYA produces and distributes Wajima-nuri for mainly professional use, such as exclusive Japanese restaurants (Ryotei). Therefore, both exceptional durability and sophistication are required. The know-how accumulated over many years of experience has enabled TOHACHIYA to successfully manufacture various products ranging from furniture to accessories. In its studio, skilled craftsmen, who have been awarded the Minister of State for Trade and Industry Certificate, produce Wajima-nuri on a daily basis. These products have been awarded many prizes including the Minister of Economy and Industry Award.
